Microwave Engineering: Transmission Lines & Devices

Module Overview

This module introduces microwave engineering concepts including transmission line theory, waveguides, microwave components, and measurement techniques. Aligned with SPPU Microwave Engineering syllabus for B.E. E&TC.

Topics Covered

  • Transmission line equations: reflection coefficient, VSWR
  • Smith chart: impedance matching and transformation
  • Waveguides: rectangular and circular, modes of propagation
  • Microwave components: directional couplers, circulators, isolators
  • Microwave devices: Klystron, Magnetron, IMPATT, Gunn diode
  • Microwave measurements: power, frequency, VSWR

Learning Outcomes

Students gain ability to solve transmission line problems using the Smith chart, identify microwave devices for given frequency bands, and set up basic microwave test setups.
